If this happens you might be forcing the therapy a little bit. Try to reduce the pressure slightly. In the beginning one has to find a balance between optimal holding of the breath and still being comfortable. Usually people find this balance quite quickly.

The little shocks or cramps are caused by the respiratory center triggering the breathing whilst you are still holding your breath. It happens because of the risen acidity in the blood, causing the respiratory center to trigger. It is a clear example of the forcing character of this therapy. This effect will fade as the setting of the respiratory center changes...
