Relaxation exercise the bodyscan

Relax and sense your body

Relaxation exercise The bodyscan

If you have chronic hyperventilation, but also if you suffer from stress, the relaxation exercise the bodyscan is very good. In this relaxation exercise you learn to experience every sensation in your body. Sit quietly on the floor, close your eyes and relax yourself.

Relaxation exercise The bodyscan

  1. Move your attention to your body. Feel how your body presses to the ground. Breathe in and out quietly and feel how you ‘sink into the ground’ with every exhalation. Take your time.
  2. As soon as you are relaxed, you shift your attention to your left little toe. Feel how the energy flows to your toe. Then move your attention quietly to your other toes, your foot, your calves and the rest of your leg.
  3. Move your attention to your other foot and repeat this step. Then move your attention upwards and ‘scan’ your body calmly. Feel the energy go through your body. And feel how you relax deeper with each exhalation. Every time you feel tension somewhere, stop your attention for a moment. Relax this place and then continue.

This simple relaxation exercise is called the ‘bodyscan’ because you scan your entire body in your mind.
