Stress discharges

If you are going to do yoga or meditation, but also if you are going to do the HyperVen therapy, you will occasionally experience stress discharges. Through yoga and meditation a deep mental level of rest is achieved. This deep spiritual rest triggers the natural de-stressing mechanism of our nervous system. The stress is broken lose from its roots in the nervous system. It then enters the conscious level of the mind. Because the HyperVen therapy also has a relatively high mental rest level, this therapy also triggers the de-stressing mechanism in the same manner.

Sudden stress discharges

We all know the phenomenon that – just before we fall asleep – there is suddenly a shock through our body. An arm or leg that makes a sudden movement. Or we suddenly feel like falling. What we experience is a sudden discharge of stress. That is stress that has become connected to the consciousness layer of the mind and it is suddenly and quickly discharged. The stress that discharges itself in this way is usually stress that we have accumulated in the daytime before we went to sleep.

In yoga, meditation and also in the HyperVen therapy, this effect can also occur during or outside the sessions. These quick discharges can sometimes startle people. Because one does not understand the mechanism, one becomes afraid of these sudden discharges. That fear then forms a blockade to discharge and effectively the healing process is stopped…

Slow stress discharges

The sudden discharges are actually quite good because in such a discharge a lot of stress is relieved. But more often stress is not easily discharged. The stress can – sometimes for several days – manifest itself just on the border of the conscious level. This stress then manifests itself in anxiety, fear, sometimes pain, tense and often painful muscles, sometimes migraines, sweating, shaking and trembling, concentration disorders, and so on. The symptoms are very similar to those of chronic hyperventilation.

Facilitating the discharge of stress

What most people do – often unconsciously – is to resist the stress discharges. People are afraid of losing control over their body. One feels that there is something lurking in the darkness of the mind. Because of this fear of losing control, people halt the discharge process. Sometimes people start doing all sorts of things to divert their attention from what has originated at the edge of consciousness. They just do not dare to let go of the stress.

Stress discharges and an unsuspecting attitude

One can help the discharge of stress by adopting an unsuspecting attitude. By not being afraid of the stress discharges and of losing control, one can stimulate the discharging process. One way of doing this is to close the eyes and let the thoughts flow freely. Allow everything that happens. What often happens is that the stress can then be discharged more easily. The most difficult step to take is to no longer be afraid of the stress and losing control. Yoga and meditation facilitate the release and discharge of stress and are therefore good ways to reduce stress.
